Metering and Instrumentation Engineer (Hardware)

The Metering and Instrumentation Engineer (Hardware) is responsible for ensuring the technical integrity, measurement accuracy, reliability, and lifecycle performance of smart gas meters, retrofit communication modules, EVCs (Electronic Volume Correctors), pressure/temperature sensors, mechanical meters, and associated field instrumentation deployed under the Azerigaz Smart Gas Grid Program. This role provides L2 technical expertise in diagnostics, calibration validation, firmware coordination, measurement integrity, and hardware fault analysis, while supporting warranty governance and predictive maintenance initiatives.

 Measurement Accuracy & Technical Integrity

• Ensure accurate measurement of gas volume, pressure, and temperature parameters across deployed devices.
• Validate meter accuracy compliance with OEM specifications and regulatory standards.
• Analyze abnormal consumption patterns and investigate potential hardware-related causes.

Device Diagnostics & Fault Analysis

• Perform deep technical analysis
• Review MDMS diagnostics and field reports to confirm root cause classification.
• Provide documented Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports.

Calibration & Instrumentation Control

• Validate calibration parameters for pressure and temperature sensors.
• Monitor sensor drift trends using dashboards and analytics tools.

Qualification:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering.

6+ years of experience in Gas metering systems, instrumentation & control systems, or smart metering/utility infrastructure projects. Experience with diaphragm meters, EVCs, and pressure/temperature sensors preferred.

• Strong understanding of gas measurement principles, volume correction algorithms, pressure & temperature instrumentation, smart meter internal components, and communication modules (NB-IoT / LoRaWAN). Ability to interpret engineering drawings, OEM manuals, and calibration certificates. Familiarity with MDMS and remote diagnostics tools.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting ability, structured documentation skills, cross-functional coordination capability, and the ability to train and guide field teams.
• Fluent in Azerbaijani and English (written and spoken); Russian proficiency is an asset.
